Lehman returns as Sun's CFO

Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal

Sun Microsystems Inc. said on Tuesday that its former chief financial officer, Michael Lehman, is returning as its CFO on Wednesday, replacing Steve McGowan.

Santa Clara-based Sun (NASDAQ:SUNW) said McGowan, who has been CFO since July 2002, will remain at Sun as executive vice president of finance. He announced in October that he planned to retire as CFO.

Lehman was the executive vice president, corporate resources and chief financial officer at Sun from 1998 to 2002, and served on the company's board of directors in various capacities.

Since 2002, he has been a business consultant while sitting on the boards of Echelon Corp., MGIC Investment Corp. and NetIQ Corp. Lehman will maintain his director position on the board of MGIC Investment.

"Having now tried retirement briefly, I find that I like being involved in leading change and driving the business more directly," said Lehman in a press release.

Sun also said that Robert Finocchio Jr. has been elected to the company's board of directors. Finocchio will also join Sun's audit committee effective immediately and qualifies as an "audit committee financial expert" under SEC rules.

Finocchio also serves on the boards of Altera Corp., CaseCentral, Echelon Corp., Intransa and Silver-Peak Systems. He has also held senior roles at industry-leading companies including chairman, chief executive officer and president of Informix Corp. and president of 3Com Systems, respectively.

Finocchio is also vice-chair of the board of trustees at Santa Clara University and Dean's Executive Professor at the university's Leavey School of Business.
